This 1948 photo shows Physics Nobel laureate Ernst Ruska working on the first electronic microscope put back in service in Berlin after Worl War II. The microscope was stationed at the Max Plank Institute in the West Berlin district of Dahlem in the American sector. The now (1986) 79 years old professor was awarded half of the Nobel Physics Prize Wednesday, October 15, 1986.
