Pablo Neruda, Chilean consul-general in Mexico and famous Latin American poet, is shown on December 29, 1941, in Mexico City, while recovering from injuries police said were inflicted on him by a group of German nationals at Cuernavaca the day before. Neruda, accompanied by a group of Mexicans and Chileans, was in a German hotel and was attacked after his group drank a toast to U.S. President Roosevelt and Mexican President Avila Camacho. The owner of the hotel was arrested and police are searching for other assailants. (AP Photo)
