** ADVANCE FOR SUNDAY APRIL 18 ** William Watson, 46, rests in bed at King/Drew Medical Center Tuesday, March 9, 2004, in Los Angeles. In one of the most egregious cases against the hospital, Watson was given the potent cancer drug Gleevac for four days in February before staff realized the mistake. He had been admitted to the hospital for treatment of meningitis. Problems at the combined King/Drew Medical Center, a community anchor built from the ashes of the 1965 Watts Riot and one of the most historically significant hospitals in the nation, are detailed in two federal investigations that address negligence and mismanagement at the facility which may threaten its very future.
