Park employee Henry Moore gets Revolution Park Pool ready to open, in Charlotte, N.C., in this 1966 photo. Once, long ago, the pool was the place for young residents of Charlotte to see each other and be seen. Later, it became a place of history and controversy as the first municipal pool in the state to admit black customers. Now the revolution has given way to the evolution of a city. The landmark pool will close Monday, Sept. 5, 2005, to make way for a $10 million dollar recreation center.(AP Photo/The Charlotte Observer)
