Picture dated 15 October 1950 of US President Harry Truman (R) greeting US General Douglas MacArthur. President Truman met MacArthur on Wake Island 15 October 1950 to discuss the political situation which had arisen following MacArthur's sweeping victory in Korea. Nevertheless, President Truman shocked America 11 April 1951 by dismissing General Douglas MacAthur from all his posts, including that of commander of the United Nations forces in Korea, explaining in a broadcast that US policy in the Far East was designed to prevent conflict spreading whereas "a number of events have made it evident that General MacArthur did not agree with that policy".
