President Obama spoke to a group of students in the library of Wakefield High School in Arlington, Va. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009. Obama exhorted America's students on Tuesday to study hard, set goals, accept personal responsibility, and "get serious this year" in a back-to-school address that became a lightning rod for conservative parents who accused the White House of trying to indoctrinate their children with a political message. Obama, accompanied by Education Secretary Arne Duncan, met with some 40 students gathered in a school library before the speech. (Doug Mills/The New York Times) 14071253
