(NYT72) NEW YORK -- July 27, 2007 -- NOCERA-COLUMN -- The crush of buyers of the latest Harry Potter series at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square just before midnight for the latest and final volume went on sale on Friday, July 20, 2007. Scholastic, Harry Potter's American publisher, had a suggested retail price of $34.99. But the Barnes & Noble price was $20.99: a 40 percent discount. Barnes & Noble "members" got an additional 10 percent off. According to the chief executive Stephen Riggio, the company sold 1.8 million books in 48 hours. (James Estrin/The New York Times)
