(NYT67) COWDEN, Ill. -- July 27, 2007 -- CATFISH-HANDFISHING -- John Burns crawled into a log looking for catfish recently in the Kaskaskia River in Cowden, Ill., on Sunday, July 22, 2007. Gary Webb, a fellow noodler, was ready to help. Sticking one's hand in the mouth of a catfish, which can weigh more than 100 pounds, carries significant risk of physical injury. For Howard Ramsey, noodling in his home state harbors yet another risk: noodling is illegal in Missouri, a situation Ramsey is working to change. (Dilip Vishwanat/The New York Times)
