FILE -- (NYT21) EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- DEC. 21, 2007 -- FBN-CONCUSSIONS -- New York Jets wide reciever Laveranues Coles (87) and team doctor, Dr. Elliot Pellman, left, walk off the field, as Jets quarterback Chad Pennington lends a hand of support, left, during a game against the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 1, 2006 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Coles sustained a concussion in the loss to the Bills and was held out of one game. Coles is the third star receiver on the Jets to endure significant concussions, following Al Toon, who retired in 1992 because of post-concussion syndrome, and Wayne Chrebet, who did the same two years ago. Experts say that the most frustrating aspect of concussions is the silence surrounding the injury. (Barton Silverman/The New York Times)
