(NYT28) NEW YORK -- December 18, 2006 -- SCI-BRAIN-LASER-2 -- Dr. David Langer, a neurosurgeon at St. Luke's Roosevelt hospital in New York City, in assistance with Dutch Dr. Cornelis Tulleken, performe a bypass procedure on Chris Ratuszny, 26, on Tuesday, December 12, 2006. The procedure, which was done to bypass a brain aneurysm, was used with the ELANA technique, developed by Dr. Tulleken in 1993. The technique, which stands for excimer laser-assisted nonocclusive anastomosis, uses a laser catheter for the bypass. (Todd Heisler/The New York Times)
