(NYT8) NEW YORK -- March 3, 2005 -- KINGS-OF-LEON-MUSIC -- From left, Nathan, Caleb, Jared and Matthew Followill in Manhattan on Feb. 24, 2005. The band Kings of Leon, occupies cultural real estate somewhere between William Faulkner and the Allman Brothers, and its members have a Waltons-gone-bad back story that plays well with urbanites who find the rest of the country somewhat mysterious. A lot of time and energy went into lifting Kings of Leon from its cult status to a band that can actually sell records. (Rahav Segev/The New York Times)
