(NYT58) NEW YORK -- March 3, 2005 -- NY-BLOOD-DONOR -- Sarah So, a high school junior, became one of the first 16-year-olds in state history to donate blood in a special collection at Francis Lewis High School in Flushing, Queens on Thursday, Mach 3, 2005. New York Blood Center, a private nonprofit service supplying 200 hospitals in the metropolitan area, was granted a variance for its pilot program from the State Department of Health's 17-year-old age limit on blood donors.
