(NYT48) ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia -- Jan. 2, 2005 -- ETHIOPIA-JEWS-4 -- Ethiopian Jews, also known as Falash Mura, wrapped in prayer shawls peform Sabbath morning prayers at their community center in Addis Ababa, Nov. 6, 2004. Immigration to Israel has been far slower than the Falash Mura Jews imagined but steady enough that few lose hope completely and return to their ancestral homes. More than 15,000 have applied to move to Israel; the Israeli government approves about 300 each month. (Evelyn Hockstein/The New York Times)
