(NYT3) LOS ANGELES -- Feb 6, 2005 -- DEGENERES-DJ -- Tony Okunbowa in Los Angeles in January. "Middle America, daytime TV and DJs are three things that you wouldn't normally find in the same sentence," said Okungbowa, resident DJ for the wildly popular daytime talk show "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." "DJs are traditionally nighttime people." And yet for nearly two years, Okungbowa has been making a living spinning records not in a smoky lounge or sweat-drenched bar, but on daytime television. Like that of any DJ worth his weight in vinyl, Okungbowa's mission is simple: Get the party started. (Ann Johansson/The New York Times)
