(NYT47) ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia -- Jan. 2, 2005 -- ETHIOPIA-JEWS-3 -- Tilanesh Gulma and her husband Melese Mandefro with their children outside their cramped one bedroom home in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital, in Nov. 2004. The family are Falsha Mura Ehtiopian Jews. They have been waiting for nearly a decade to move to Israel and join relatives already there. Immigration to Israel has been far slower than the Falash Mura Jews imagined but steady enough that few lose hope completely and return to their ancestral homes. More than 15,000 have applied to move to Israel; the Israeli government approves about 300 each month. (Evelyn Hockstein/The New York Times)
