(NYT13) SEOUL, South Korea -- June 23, 2004 -- IRAQ-BEHEADING -- South Korean protesters during a candlelight vigil and rally near the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, Wednesday, June 23, 2004. South Korea was stunned by the beheading of Kim Sun-il, a 33-year-old South Korean working for a supply company in Iraq, by his Islamist captors in Iraq. The captors beheaded after Seoul refused to meet their demand to cancel its deployment of 3,000 troops to the war-torn nation. The South Korean government also reaffirmed Wednesday its plan to send troops to Iraq despite the killing of Kim. (Jae-hyun Seok/The New York Times) *LITE
