(NYT11) BAGHDAD, Iraq -- June 1, 2004 -- IRAQ-POLITICS -- Ghazi al-Yawar addresses the audience following the official announcement of his selection as president of Iraq's interim government, Tuesday, June 1, 2004 in Baghdad. Al-Yawar was chosen after another leading candidate favored by the Bush administration refused the position.
