(NYT45) NEW YORK -- May 25, 2004 -- NYSE-GRASSO-LEGAL -- Peter Diamandopoulos, president of Adelphi University at a commencent ceremony in New York in 1996. Diamandopoulos was forced to return part of his compensation. Recovering tens of millions of dollars from the former Big Board chief executive Richard A. Grasso will not be easy -- even for New York's attorney general, Eliot Spitzer. Under the law cited in his lawsuit, Spitzer would have to show that Mr. Grasso's compensation was unreasonable -- because the board was in the dark, because the board was conflicted or just because it was so much money.
