(NYT23) BEIJING -- May 23, 2004 -- CHINA-BASEBALL -- Bat boys and ball boys singing the Chinese national anthem at the Chinese Baseball League All-Star Game in May. Promoters of the professional baseball league clearly hope for a lot more sunshine ahead, as China gears up to host the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, where it will compete in the sport for the first time. The Chinese government has eagerly supported the league, with all of four teams -- the Beijing Tigers, Tianjin Lions, Shanghai Eagles and Guangdong Leopards -- hoping at a minimum to avoid embarrassment at the Olympics.
