(NYT11) GREENLAND, N.H. -- June 21, 2004 -- SCI-BREAST-DISEASE -- Jane Leffingwell, right, with her daughter, Allison, at their home, in Greenland, N.H., on April 15, 2004, has had two bouts with ductal carcinoma in situ, a precancerous disease of the breast. The diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in situ, a noninvasive lesion of the lining of the milk ducts, has increased markedly in recent years, as a result of the widespread use of mammography. But there is a mounting debate among experts over how aggressively to treat the disease. (Robert Spencer/The New York Times)
