Danforth, center, during a visit to a refugee camp near Khartoum in Nov. 2001 on the early stage of a tour of the country, including then rebel-held areas like Kauda. President Bush nominated his Sudan peace envoy, Danforth, as the new U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, the White House said Friday, June 4, 2004 in a statement.
