(NYT39) BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Oct. 5, 2003 -- IRAQ-SMALL-BUSINESSES-3 -- Husam Muhanad inside his computer store in Baghdad, Sept. 30 2003, imports computers and is now working toward opening his own Internet cafe. Doing business in Iraq these days is not easy. But small businesses like Muhanad's are sometimes bustling. The problems are obvious. Only a few banks are open in Baghdad, and the power fails with depressing regularity. Baghdad is mostly peaceful during the day, but roadside bombs and violent demonstrations can at any moment turn its streets into chaos. (Joao Silva/The New York Times)
