(NYT4) NEW YORK -- Oct. 24, 2003 -- CONCORDE-LAST-FLIGHT-2 -- British Airways' Concorde retracks its landing gear after taking off from John F. Kennedy Airport bound for Heathrow in London on its last flight, Friday, Oct. 24, 2003. British Airways said goodbye to its flagship airliner on Friday, a joint project of the British and French governments that began commercial service in January 1976. Rep. Anthony Weiner, representing the area of Queens where many voiced opposition to the supersonic aircraft's noise, put the last flight another way: "This is one flight cancellation that was long overdue.''
