Recently, the U.S. government designated this pathway as a historic trail, sparking a flurry of activities that include a series of events to commemorate this road's rich and varied history. The centuries old San Acacia cemetery in San Acacia, N.M. on Sept. 13, 2003, where a miniature version of the 19th century adobe church serves as an ornament on one of the tombs.
