(NYT49) NEW YORK -- September 24, 2003 -- NY-NAME-CHANGES-2 -- Never have New Yorkers been reinventing themselves at the rate they are now. The city's Civil Court clerk's office, which has been keeping files on name changes since 1887, says the number of applications has nearly doubled citywide, to 4,233 last year from 2,449 in 1999. Dalton Conley, with is four-year-old son in their Greenwich Village home on Sept. 18, 2003. Conley recently lengthened his son's name to Yo Xing Heyno Augustus Eisner Alexander Weiser Knuckles Jeremijenko-Conley. (Fred R. Conrad/The New York Times)
