(NYT50) CAMP VICTORY, Kuwait -- March 7, 2003 -- IRAQ-HELICOPTERS -- Sgt. Taurin Vincent, signal support systems specialist for 9th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment struggles amid a sandstorm, Friday, March 7, 2003, as he attempts to wrap a scarf around his head for protection. During the night, the tent he shared with 60 other soldiers was uprooted and blown away by winds that exceeded 60 mph. The Army was supposed to begin unloading its combat helicopters Friday morning from a cargo ship that had arrived in the Kuwaiti port. Instead, hundreds of fliers sat in this desert camp, waiting for their own tents to land. (Spc. Robert Woodward, U.S. Army via The New York Times) *LITE
