(NYT48) DHAKA, Bangladesh -- March 11, 2003 -- BANGLADESH-CRACKDOWN-2 -- Shahriar Kabir, a writer and filmmaker who has been arrested twice for trying to document and publicize attacks on Hindus by the Muslim majority during and after the last election in Bangladesh, says: "I keep trying to tell them that criticizing the government doesn't mean treason." The Bangladeshi government's growing intolerance for dissent, has raised concerns about a drift toward authoritarianism in this democracy of 130 million people. Kabir in Dhaka in March 2003.
