(NYT9) NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Sept. 13, 2003 -- CASH-REMEMBERED -- Heidi Newfield of the band Trick Pony paying tribute to Johnny Cash on Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at his plaque in the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. Cash sang on the group's recording of one of his own songs in 2001. Cash, whose gravelly bass-baritone was the vocal bedrock of American country music for more than four decades, died on Friday in Nashville. He was 71 and lived nearby in Hendersonville, Tenn.
