(NYT13) NEW YORK -- September 10, 2003 -- RETRO-BROADWAY -- Adv. for Sunday, Sept. 14 -- Walk down Manhattan's West 52nd Street nowadays and you could be excused for thinking you'd stumbled back in time a decade or four. That's because both the Broadway shows currently playing there take their musical cues from that fervent pop music period after Brenda Lee and before the Beatles. The Dynamites, with Harvey Fierstein behind them, in "Hairspray" at the Neil Simon Theater in Manhattan on Oct. 31, 2002. (Sara Krulwich/The New York Times)
