(NYT7) NEW YORK -- Sept. 6, 2003 -- MILLION-YOUTH-MARCH -- Musicians perform, above, on stage at the Million Youth March in Brooklyn, New York, Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003. The march, a flashpoint for controversy just five years ago, stepped off quietly Saturday with only about 100 people joining in the six-block trek in Brooklyn. The fifth annual event is a day of celebrating black heritage, lobbying for hot political issues and pushes for change in black communities. In foreground is a poster honoring the memory of Khalid Muhammad the founder of Million Youth March. Below, Dr. Dlois Blakely hugs a young woman at the beginning of the march.
