(NYT38) NEW YORK -- Sept. 23, 2003 -- LIZ-CLAIBORNE-2 -- On Thursday night, Paul L. Charron, chief executive of Liz Claiborne will place his latest bet on Mexx, an Amsterdam-based retailer of T-shirts and parachute pants that Claiborne bought two years ago. Mexx lands in the United States with a flagship store on Fifth Avenue at 52nd Street. Mexx -- a $315 million gamble -- has crossed the ocean to take on the likes of Express, Gap, and H&M, not to mention Target and Wal-Mart. The interior of the store on Sept. 23, 2003.
