(NYT15) STRAWBERRY ISLAND, British Columbia -- Sept. 20, 2003 -- MARITIME-MYSTERY-3 -- From Strawberry Island near Tofino, British Columbia, Rod Palm, owner of the island, says he has watched Tofino transform from a salmon fishing village to a tourist destination, and his hope is that his discovery of an old anchor that he says may have belonged to the ill-fated ship the Tonquin could be a boon for the town's fading maritime legacy. In the kitchen in his ferry boat home on Strawberry Island, Sept. 17, 2003, Palm displays glass trading beads he found encrusted in the anchor. (Matthew Preusch/The New York Times)
