(NYT26) NEW YORK -- August 22, 2003 -- FREAK-CONEY-ISLAND-2 -- Coney Island has seen a lot, but even in a place where trouble and cheap spectacle are the norm, "Shoot the Freak" has been turning heads. Up to six customers at a time can stand on the Boardwalk and aim their paint-ball rifles down an alley filled with trash and concrete bits at the Freak, darting and dodging. "It never hurts, but sometimes it stings," said Matt Behan, 23, one of four Freaks. Behan replaces is helmet on Aug. 20, 2003. (Ting-Li Wang/The New York Times)
