(NYT20) NEW YORK -- Aug. 18, 2002 -- 9/11-TV-MEDIA -- In the television news business, the rush is on to gain access to the officials and survivors whose voices will give an accessible dimension to the anniversary coverage of the terrorist attacks. If the terrorist attacks ever did prompt a truce among television network news divisions, it is long over. While sought-after personalities like Bernard B. Kerik, the former New York City police commissioner, say that most interview requests have been low key, the coverage of the anniversary threatens to mix reverence and solemnity with one-upmanship. Rudolph W. Giuliani, left seated, with Kerik, center, and Thomas Van Essen, far right, former New York City fire commissioner, during a meeting at City Hall on Sept. 17, 2001. Giuliani has received requests for interviews about Sept. 11 from around the world, but has not yet decided which he will accept. (Angel Franco/The New York Times)
