(NYT22) NEW YORK -- Aug. 18, 2002 -- NY-USA-TRIATHLON -- Participants in the women's field in the USA Triathlon Elite National Championships swim the Hudson River for a 1,500-meter swim, Sunday. Barb Lindquist, who finished second at the World Cup Triathlon in April, won the women's U.S. elite national championship with a victory, Sunday. Seth Wealing, of Remington, Ind., took the men's title in 1 hour, 51 minutes, 10 seconds, with Tim Kitching and Andrew Kelsey tied for second in 1:52:06. Competitors swam 1,500 meters in the Hudson River, bicycled 24.85 miles through Manhattan and the Bronx, and ran 6.2 miles to the finish line in Central Park. (Justin Lane/The New York Times)
