(NYT8) BURBANK, Calif. -- Aug. 16, 2002 -- ADV. FOR SUN. AUG. 18 -- GOLD-DISNEY -- Stanley Gold, chief of Shamrock Holdings, the investment arm of the Disney family, has grown increasingly critical of Michael D. Eisner, the chairman of Walt Disney. Gold who manages the Disney family fortune, has taken its Shamrock Holdings far beyond Disney stock. Trouble is, Shamrock has used the Disney stock to leverage its way into other things, and Disney stock has languished in recent years under Michael D. Eisner. It would fall to Gold, who helped install Eisner in the mid-'80s, to engineer his ouster. Golf at Shamrock Holdings offices in Burbank, Calif. (Gerard Burkhart/The New York Times)
