(NYT24) WEEHAWKEN, N.J. -- Aug. 11, 2002 -- NY-NJ-FERRIES -- About 66,000 commuters cross the Hudson in ferries every weekday. At top, in foreground, the Lincoln Harbor Yacht Club in Weehawken, N.J., was a coveted place to dock boats. But the ferries' large wakes have sent some boaters elsewhere. Hewing to tight schedules, ferries speed across the water and throw wakes that snap lines, break up docks, throw people across their boats and generally wreak havoc on anyone trying to enjoy a quiet cruise, boaters and marina owners say.
