(NYT33) NAPLES, Fla. -- Feb. 9, 2003 -- NEW-CATHOLIC-UNIVERSITY-3 -- On a remote 750-acre site near the Everglades, Ave Maria University, the nation's first new Catholic university in four decades, is about to rise from the flat fields of peppers and tomatoes that stretch to the horizon. Thomas Monaghan, founder of Domino's Pizza, former Detroit Tigers owner and Chairman of Ann Arbor, Michigan-based Ave Maria Foundation, stands in front of the temporary site of Ave Maria University in Naples, Fla., Jan. 29, 2003.
