(NYT20) CLEAR LAKE, Texas -- Feb. 2, 2003 -- SHUTTLE-REACT-3 -- Reggie Barnett, left, and his wife Sabrina, friends of fellow parishioner and space shuttle Columbia commander Rick D. Husband, wear ribbons they received at the launch of the Columbia, outside of Grace Community Church in Clear Lake, Texas, Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003. About 2,000 people filled Grace Community Church, a 10-minute drive from the Houston Space Center, where Husband and fellow Columbia astronaut Michael P. Anderson, who both died in the tragedy, had attended services. For many residents the shuttle disaster on Saturday, Feb. 1, reopened wounds from 17 years ago, when the shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds after takeoff. They also expressed fear for the future of the space program. (Michael Stravato/The New York Times)
