For a brief but tense moment, it looked as if Howard Johnson's restaurant would be leaving Times Square after more than 40 years in business at the corner of Broadway and 46th Street. "We have a license agreement that requires long-term notification," said Christopher Smith, the company's president and chief executive officer. "To date we have not received any such notification."
