(NYT14) BETHLEHEM, Israel -- Feb. 17, 2003 -- MIDEAST-BETHLEHEM -- An Israeli soldier guarded the bunkerlike entrance to Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, as an Orthodox Jew arrived in an armored bus to pray. Under an Israeli plan, a new wall in Bethlehem will be built which will separate a Palestinian neighborhood from the rest of Bethlehem. Palestinians on the Israeli side of the wall will have to pass through an army checkpoint inside it to reach the rest of Palestinian Bethlehem. (Rina Castelnuovo/The New York Times)
