(NYT50) NEW YORK -- Feb. 14, 2003 -- MOVIE-TICKETS -- Buying movie tickets in advance has become much more complicated recently thanks to new competition in the ticketing industry. These days, three companies offer advance-purchase tickets, in New York and nationally, and have their own partnerships with movie-theater chains. To make things even more confusing, two of the companies, AOL Moviefone and MovieTickets.com, sell each others' tickets online but not over the phone. The third company, Fandango, has exclusive deals with its theaters and does not do business with the other two companies. At the Union Square United Artists Theater, Amy Gaiser and Steve Considine pick up tickets they had bought in advance on Jan. 29, 2003. (Michelle V. Agins/The New York Times)
