(NYT47) NEW YORK -- Feb. 6, 2003 -- TOY-GUN-JOKE -- The Manhattan Libertarian Party had hoped to dramatize its opposition to a City Council proposal to ban toy guns by distributing hundreds of free plastic water pistols Thursday at a public school in East Harlem. The stunt turned out to be more of a dramatization of how to shoot yourself in the foot. The intention, said Gary Snyder, the Libertarian Party chairman, was to make light of the proposal on the day it was introduced. Regina Littles, a neighborhood resident, berated Libertarian Party spokesman James Lesczynksi, left, and Snyder for trying to hand out toy guns in East Harlem on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003.
