The Police Department awarded its highest honor Friday to three officers who risked their lives to save other officers from the ruins of the World Trade Center. Detectives Patrick McGee and Scott Strauss of the elite Emergency Service Unit received the department's Medal of Honor for refusing orders to abandon the rescue of two Port Authority police officers trapped beneath debris after the Sept. 11 terrorist attack.
