(NYT30) NEW YORK -- Jan. 6, 2003 -- LIPPER-HEDGE-FUND -- Kenneth Lipper, money manager to the stars before his hedge fund suddenly collapsed a year ago, will try to persuade a judge on Tuesday that he can pay his investors back -- most of their money, at least. But many of the investors are furious, saying the plan favors some clients over others. Lipper shocked the financial community when he announced last February that his Lipper Convertibles Fund had suddenly lost $315 million, or 40 percent of its value. Lipper in New York in 1985.
