(NYT11) NEW YORK -- Feb. 25, 2003 -- NY-WD50-RESTAURANT-3 -- Wylie Dufresne, a quietly groovy 32-year-old with mutton-chop sideburns, was the chef at 71 Clinton Fresh Food when it opened on the Lower East Side in Manhattan in 1999. Within weeks, doting reviews sent diners to the tiny restaurant. Now, Dufresne is facing pressure that only New York's food world can bestow, as he prepares to open a new place, WD-50, at 50 Clinton Street on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Opening day is tentatively scheduled for March 15. Sam Mason, part of the team of young chef's creating the menu at WD-50 at work in the kitchen on Feb. 19, 2003.
