(NYT12) WARWICK, R.I. -- Feb. 23, 2003 -- RI-CLUB-FIRE-2 -- David Penny and Melinda Bloomingburgh of West Warwick, R.I., mourn in front of the charred remains of The Station nightclub, Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, as they arrived with flowers for their best friend Kevin Anderson who died in the fire which claimed at least 96 people, Thursday night, Feb. 20, 2003. For days, they've lived with the video images of their relatives jammed in the doorway of a burning nightclub, many screaming in terror as they struggled in vain to break free. On Sunday, for the first time, the parents, siblings and children of the victims who couldn't escape the fire were allowed to walk up to the remains of the nightclub to pray and say goodbye.
