(NYT40) WRIGHTSTOWN, N.J. -- Jan. 29, 2003 -- BUSH-TROOPS -- Although much of the nation may have tuned in to President Bush's State of the Union address on Tuesday evening, Jan. 28, 2003, hoping for greater clarity about his plans in Iraq, members of the military who are poised to go to the front lines listened even more intently. Master Sgt. David Ace made sure that he tuned in to President Bush's speech on Tuesday. He felt he had to. "Something has to be done," says Ace, 42, of the threat posed by President Saddam Hussein of Iraq. "And unfortunately, it looks like it may have to be something done militarily." Ace during an interview in a store in Wrightstwon, N.J., Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2003, near Fort Dix. (Keith Meyers/The New York Times)
