(NYT12) KIRYAT MOTZKIN, Israel -- Feb. 2, 2003 -- SHUTTLE-ISRAEL-REACT -- Students at ORT high school in Kiryat Motzkin, located on the west coast of Israel outside of Haifa, read a poem at a memorial set up Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, for Col. Ilan Ramon, Israel's first astronaut, who died Saturday, Feb. 1, when the space shuttle Columbia broke up over Texas, killing seven astronauts. The school is one of six selected by NASA to participate in the NASA Stars program. Ramon had met with some of them and was conducting an experiment in space on their behalf.
