(NYT27) DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- Nov. 21, 2002 -- SCI-DOGS-EXPLAINED -- Tyler greets Frances Garzia at Community Hospital in Dobbs Ferry in September, 2001. No relationship is so pure, so free of deception and distrust, so laden with mutual benefit, as that between people and dogs. Much of the credit for this unusual state of affairs, it now turns out, may lie on the canine side of the equation. Tyle, a 20-month old Golden Retriever, is assigned to work in both outpatient and inpatient departments at the hospital, performing tasks including patient visitation and accompaniment as well as interacting with hand surgery patients who are working at recovering range of motion by brushing his fur and throwing a ball to him.
